Local Association News SNIPEF Glasgow & West of Scotland Another successful Annual Dinner took place on Friday 13 January at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow. The event consisted of an excellent dinner followed by three after dinner speakers: retired banker Peter Brown, retired policeman John McKelvie and comedian Gary Little. There were over 300 attendees comprising SNIPEF Glasgow & West Association members, manufacturers, merchants and tutors from colleges in the West of Scotland where the SVQ in Domestic Plumbing is delivered. The top table included SNIPEF Chief Executive Fiona Hodgson and the National President Brian Warrender as well as representatives from other Local Associations and the guest speakers. During the evening our regular Charity Raffle was held. Prizes were donated by the Radisson Hotel (a stay for 2 people), Wolseley PlumbCenter (a 4 ball golf outing at Slaley Hall), West College Scotland (£1000 of training vouchers), Preston Fleming (£100 shopping vouchers), Hugh Scott Builders (£100 shopping vouchers) and Richmonds Plumbing & Heating Merchants (£100 shopping vouchers). The raffle, as in previous years, raised funds for the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) which cares for children with life shortening illnesses and supports their families. Over £ 4,100 was raised on the night which brings the total that SNIPEF Glasgow & West of Scotland Association have donated to this charity over the years to a staggering £54,000. We are very grateful to all supporters and attendees for helping achieve such an impressive amount. Lanarkshire Master Plumbers Association As reported in the last issue of Plumb Heat the Lanarkshire Association has amalgamated with Glasgow and West of Scotland Association. Lanarkshire representatives expressed their sadness at this event which marks the end of a long and proud history for the Association which was founded in 1955. The Lord Lyons Charter and the President’s Jewel (pictured) have been donated to Lanarkshire Museum in Hamilton. The Association would like acknowledge the service of all Past Presidents (listed below) and committee members and would like to extend thanks to Jack Watson for his hard work on behalf of the Association. • 1955-57 Duncan Johnston Strathaven 1957-59 John Stewart Hamilton 1959-61 William Bell Mossend 1961-63 J Douglas Coats Motherwell 1963-65 TM Simpson Blantyre 1965-67 Hamish A Thomson Bellshill 1967-69 Leslie Gunn Carluke 1969-71 David A McLeod Bellshill 1971-73 Jack Wilkie Motherwell 1973-75 Jack Moffatt East Kilbride 1975-77 Hamish A Thomson Bellshill 1977-79 Leslie Gunn Carluke 1979-81 J Douglas McClur Airdrie 1981-83 Tommy Thomson Uddingston 1983-85 Walter Laing Wishaw 1985-87 Robin Wilkie Motherwell 1987-89 James A Aitkenhead East Kilbride 1989-91 David C McLeod Bellshill 1991-93 Jack Watson (Sec. 2001-16) Carluke 1993-95 Pat O’Rourke Motherwell 1995-98 Thomas Galloway Douglas 1998-01 Jim Williams East Kilbride 2001-03 Donald Patrick Law 2003-05 Willie Barnes Larkhall 2005-08 Thomas Galloway Douglas 2008-12 William Gibson Strathaven 2012-15 David C McLeod Bellshill 2016 George Todd Shotts 10 Spring 2017
